Local Port Coquitlam Children Save Baby Seal.

A baby seal was abandoned by it's mother at Hopkins Landing.

He was trying to hang onto the pier.  The kids along with
the local kids were able to get it up on deck without touching
him.  It had been trying to hang onto the pier for about 6 hrs.
We carefully put him back into the ocean.

It soon became apparent that he had not enough strength to
keep up the fight much longer.  We figured he was going to
drown.  So I said it was O.K. for Luke to pick him up out of the
water.

The kids quickly carried him back to our trailer.  We tried
not to attract attention so we could keep the little fellow quiet.
but hey, this is the Army and soon everyone streamed in to see
this cute little guy

Erika-Shaye cuddled him gently, greatly concerned
for his health and safety.  Jack was quick to get in touch
with the Gibsons wildlife rescue.  He told us to
try not to handle him and put him in a tub without water.

And so we did.

The wild life rescue man came about 2 hours later.  He said
the baby was about one week old.  He said it looked like he
had been without it's mother for about 2 days and that he was
very dehydrated.  He was going to start it on I.V. fluids right
away.  Tomorrow he would get it to the Vancouver Aquarium.

He said at the aquarium they would raise it for about 3 months
and then they would release it with a group of other rescued seals.
We were glad that we helped this little guy.  He was so cute
cuddlely, and so helpless.

What makes this story great for us is that Luke and Erika-Shaye Gair are my wifes brother and sister!
Way to go kids...
